Background

Palatine Precision Ltd. was originally formed in 1948 as Palatine Tool & Engineering in Surbiton, specialising in jigs and fixtures for the engineering industry. In the early 50's with the advent of Nuclear Power and the building of the Magnox Reactors, Palatine became a contractor to the U.K.A.E.A. building sodium test rigs and liquid metal valves for the nuclear industry. It was at this time that the company became involved with the manufacture of metal bellows expansion joints.

In 1958, the company was acquired by Elliott Automation and was transferred to Greenwich. It then became part of a local group, Kent Castings Ltd., and moved to Strood. Three years later, we became a private company. In 1964 the company moved away from general engineering to concentrate on the manufacture of metal bellows seals for the nuclear, aerospace and chemical industries. A period of consolidation followed which saw a transfer of the business to the Rochester Trading Estate in 1971 and then on to new premises situated in Laker Road in 1986, in an area known as the Rochester Airport Industrial Estate.
